Jenifer Petrescu
Executive Director

Jenifer is our Executive Director and has served in that role since 2013. However, she is not new to B'nai Israel. Jenifer worked in the Day School as a teacher for seven years as she earned her undergrad and graduate degrees from the University of Florida, both in Political Science. In 2010, Jenifer took a job as Program Coordinator with the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations, a statewide membership organization for local education foundations serving all of Florida's public school students.  Having grown up in California, Jenifer moved to Florida to pursue her academic studies at UF and is now an avid Gator fan but still roots on her hometown San Francisco Giants whenever she gets the chance. Jenifer and her husband Vlad have three children.

Shauna Sikron
Coordinator of Jewish Learning

Shauna is honored to have served B'nai Israel four years as the Coordinator of Jewish Learning and Chavaya director.  She works with children of all ages, from infants in our Shalom Baby program to elementary-aged children in our Hebrew school through high schoolers in our youth group.  She loves teaching and developing programs in a Jewish context, particularly when it involves learning through food (which so much of Jewish culture does).  She loves working with members across the B'nai Israel community.

Melanie Gonzalez
Financial Administrator

While not new to B’nai Israel, Melanie is eager to step into the Financial Administrator role here at the synagogue! Previously, Melanie was the Student Services Coordinator for the Day School for four and a half years. She absolutely loved working with the incredible teachers, an unbelievable staff, and the wonderful families in this community and is so very grateful for the friendships and skills that she gained there.

Originally from Miami, she moved to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida, and has since been here for almost 10 years, where she lives with her 2 cats. She spends as much time outside, hiking or camping, as possible.  Melanie loves animals and enjoys working with Gainesville’s rescue community. She is an avid Harry Potter nerd and has memorized every Gilmore Girls episode.

B’nai Israel truly has become a second home to her, and she appreciates how warm this community has been in welcoming and teaching her. She cannot wait to get to know more of you during her time here. Please feel free to stop by and say, “Hello!”

Cassidy Oody
Administrative Programming Coordinator

Cassidy is our new Administrative Programming Specialist. Growing up in an Air Force family, she has spent most of her life between Vidalia, GA and Charleston, SC. Cassidy attended the College of Charleston, where she pursued her passion for social justice and action by majoring in Pre-law and English. While in school she also participated in competitive extemporaneous speaking, debate, and classical singing. She has two hilarious, weird, and mostly sweet kids with her husband Marc, and two equally weird cats. She spends her free time reading, writing, exploring music, collecting memes that she thinks other people will also find funny (they don't), re-watching Frasier, the best show of all time, and listening every night to "just ONE more thing" her son needs to tell her at bed time. Cassidy is excited to be a part of the B'nai Israel community, and looks forward to getting to know everyone. Feel free to stop by and say hi or share a meme. There are never too many!
