Chavaya! Religious School

It’s hard to believe that in just a month we will begin another year of Chavaya! The summer has gone by so fast and we are excited to get going for the New Year.  This year will be full of very positive innovations for our Chavaya program.

To that end, some of the changes that you can look forward to are:

  •         Increased communication
  •         Lesson Plans online and available to Parents
  •         Parent and Student Expectations
  •         Assessment based curriculum implementation

We are conducting a search for our next religious school director and it is our hope that we will have that person in place prior to our staff orientation in early August. However, rest assured that Rabbi Kaiman has worked tirelessly to ensure that we are ready to go on August 28th when we resume and he will continue to lead Chavaya until the best possible choice is selected to help us lead our religious school program.

Our schedule will remain as it has, with Kindergarten through 2nd grade attending on Sundays and 3rd-7th grade on both Tuesdays and Sundays. For Kindergarten, we will have a supplemental materials that will be suggested for at home learning opportunities to keep their momentum going. Included in this packet is the calendar of all dates for Chavaya in 2016-2017. You can also look at the weekly e-news distributed by the synagogue, which will highlight the days Chavaya is in session for the month.

The goal of Chavaya is to continue striving to provide your child with a Jewish learning experience that will set the foundation for a love of lifelong Jewish learning. They should have a great experience with their fellow classmates as well as enriching their Judaic concepts and grammar, along with the basic conversational Hebrew. At the end of the year, we will celebrate with a program that will acknowledge the time and dedication of our students with a moving up ceremony. Each student will receive a certificate of completion and each student completing 2nd grade, will receive their own siddur in anticipation of their B’nai Mitzvah training.

As the year approaches, we thank you for bringing your child to our school and allowing us to be a part of this journey with you and your family.
