Storahtelling Shabbat
Presented by B'nai Israel, Sponsored by JCNCF
February 24-25, 2012
Through dramatized interpretations, traditional chanting, original music and live interaction, Storahtelling “mavens” will lead us through an active encounter with experiential Jewish learning.
StorahSteps features live music, puppetry, crafts and more for families with children ages 2-10. We’ll be enjoying the Noah’s Rainbow performance. Join us and climb on board the big, big ark and meet Yonah, Noah's granddaughter! Yonah will take you on an adventure through the ark and introduce you to two of the birds on board, the Dove and the Raven. Friday, Feb. 24 at 4:30 p.m.
Kabbalat Shabbat "Setting the Stage": Join us in the main sanctuary as we welcome Shabbat and “set the stage” for our Storahtelling Shabbat. We’ll meet our Storahtelling mavens and get a taste of Storahtelling. Simultaneously, a Family Kabbalat Service will be held in the Community Room. Friday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m.
Shabbat Dinner catered by Ibti Hijazi. Make your reservation for this Mediterranean buffet, which will include fish and vegetarian options as well as a pasta bar for kids. $20/person, $5/child (under the age of 13). Reservations in the form of pre-payment are required by Feb. 22.
StorahService: Storahtelling Mavens revive and reinvent the Torah Service for modern times and bring the Torah to life through a fresh fusion of Hebrew chanting, dramatized English translation and interactive commentary that often includes elements of Bibliodrama. Afterwards, join us for a Kiddush luncheon, sponsored by Dawn and Harry Krop. Following lunch, all are invited to participate in Talkback, a Q&A session that allows the community a forum to debrief the experience and learn more about Storahtelling and the history of the Maven. Saturday morning services begin at 9:30 a.m.
Meet the Maven: This is an interactive study session on the ancient art of Torah translation and its contemporary relevance using Judaic and literary theory and commentary. This workshop is suitable for adults and older students. Saturday, 5:30 p.m.
Spice to Go, a Musical Havdallah: Usher in the new week, Storahtelling-style and join us as we celebrate the separation of Shabbat from the week, the sacred from the mundane, and the past from the future with music, stories, spices, fire, and wine.
